Say
'NO!' to Death!
by
Mark McFeely, Natural healer.
Many
years ago, when I lived in Ireland, a remarkable experience dramatically
changed my outlook on life. I was a fast car freak in those days. I suppose
I still am, but I don't have a fast car. At that time I was driving a
Bristol 408, a car hand-built by the British Air Corporation. This was
a powerful two door touring car with a 5.1 liter engine, something between
a Rolls Royce and an Aston Martin.
One day, I was on a stretch of highway that was about 11 miles long and
as straight as a die. You could see all the way to the horizon. There
were three vehicles in front of me; a little red pick-up truck, a Mercedes-Benz,
and way ahead of them a big gasoline tanker-truck. This was only a two
lane highway, but there was nothing coming towards me on the other side,
and I just could not resist the temptation. I pulled out onto the other
side and hit the gas.
Within seconds I was hurtling along at over one hundred and twenty miles
per hour. This was before we had speed limits in Ireland. The adrenalin
was pumping in me and I was pumping the gas pedal. First, I raced past
the pick-up truck. Then, as I passed the Mercedes, the Gas truck signalled
and pulled over onto the side margin. As I approached the Gas truck, the
driver turned on the other turn signal and proceeded to drive straight
accross the road. By this time I was doing one hundred and twenty eight
miles per hour (one remembers little details like this), and there was
nowhere to go.
I remember thinking that I had really blown it this time. The feeling
was that this was it. I was certainly going to die. There was no room
or time to manoever. Say "Goodbye!".
In a flash I had a preview of hitting the truck, causing it to burst open,
spraying the gasoline over my engine, and instantly bursting into flames.
I saw myself perish in this big ball of twisted metal and fire. What happened
next changed me for ever. I heard myself scream "NO!" In that
instant time slowed down to where it seemed as though I was watching everything
in very slow motion, much like those action replays in a ball game on
TV. Suddenly, I had all the time in the world. I braked, changed gears,
and steered that enormous car, which had no power steering, around that
truck. Once I got the car straightned out I applied the brakes with all
my might. All I could see in the rear view mirror was the smoke and dust
from my tires.
When I finally brought the car to a halt, I got out and stood on the side
of the road. I was in a state of shock, and shaking with rage at the truck-driver.
Within a minute or two, I got my nerve back and pursued that truck to
give the driver a piece of my mind. He insisted that he had not seen me
at all, and did not understand what I was going on about. Regardless,
I dumped my anger on him, in words that one would not expect to hear around
innocent children. I don't know how he was affected by what I said, but
I do know that I felt better for it. I have to admit that he did not deserve
that.
A few minutes later I was cruising down the highway again. This time,
at a respectable velocity. As my mind settled down, I was impacted by
the realization of what I had experienced. I was struck by the effect
my decision had on the outcome of the situation. Saying "No!"
to death changed everything. What I saw in that profound moment was that
one's decisions have a lot to do with whether one lives or dies. Many
people die because they believe that's what's happening. They make a decision
on some level, and give up. The death might take some time to show up,
but I know that it comes from that decision. Since then I have been in
many dangerous situations, but I am always conscious in my decision that
I am not going to die. This is true whether it is a matter of a traffic
situation, my health , or whatever.
Fate did not determine the result - I did. Take it from me, that you are
not a victim of circumstances, whether of your creation, accidental or
otherwise. In over 30 years of working as a healer, often with supposedly
terminal cases, I have seen the evidence, both ways. I have no doubt about
it. You have something to say about the outcome.
Your decisions can save your life. Mine did. And continue to do so.
